Man with a Pipe
Man with a Pipe
European School 18th century, Man with a Pipe
Half-length portrait of a nobleman slightly to the right, in front of a beige-brown background that darkens to the left. He wears elegant clothes, a blue velvet waistcoat with a row of golden buttons, over which a yellow and reddish glowing cape is worn. In his left hand he holds a long smoking pipe and with his forearm the hilt of a sword. He probably wears a fur cap on his head, which is adorned with a small golden feather with a red gemstone. He has brown hair, a mustache, slightly flushed cheeks, a shiny nose, and with his bright brown eyes he looks out of the picture from the side. Fine painting in partly rapid brush strokes with skillful lighting.
Dimensions: 94 x 80 cm
